About

Built by gardeners, for gardeners.

AIGardenPlanner is an independent web tool made in the Netherlands. We help homeowners and landscape professionals turn an idea — or just a photo of their yard — into a real garden design they can actually plant.

Why we built this

Hiring a landscape designer costs thousands. Free garden-planning software is either painfully dated or buried inside a paywall after the first design. So we built AIGardenPlanner — a tool that uses modern AI to generate a real garden design from a photo of your space, plus a 3D drag-and-drop editor you can use directly in your browser with no sign-up. It's the tool we wished existed when we were planning our own gardens.

What we publish

Our blog and guides cover practical, hands-on garden and landscape design topics: how to design a front yard, the best plants for shade gardens, fall planting schedules by climate zone, drainage fixes that don't require regrading, and dozens of other questions homeowners actually ask.

We write in plain English. We don't pad articles with filler. Every piece is reviewed by a human before publishing, regardless of how it was drafted, because gardening advice has real consequences when applied to real plants and real money.

Editorial principles

  • Cite specifics. Plant recommendations always include USDA hardiness zones, sun requirements, and mature size. Vague "thrives in most conditions" copy fails our review.
  • Reject parasite content. In 2026 we audited our archive and removed posts that used the word "garden" in unrelated contexts (vape brands, music venues, supplement lawsuits). They ranked but they weren't gardening, so they had no business being on this site.
  • Be honest in comparisons. Our comparison pages acknowledge where competitors are stronger. A comparison that pretends we win every category is marketing, not information.
  • Update or remove. Pricing, feature claims, and competitor capabilities change. When something on our site goes stale, we update the page with a "Last updated" date or redirect it.

The team

AIGardenPlanner is led by Alfred van der Heide, an independent software engineer based in the Netherlands. The product was started in 2024 and is operated as an independent business — no VC, no parent company, no content network. Contributors include a small group of freelance horticulturists who review plant recommendations and zone-specific guidance before it goes live.

How AI is used

The visual design features (AI photo redesign, garden style transfers) use modern image-generation models. The plant detector uses a fine-tuned classifier. AI is the engine behind these features — but the editorial decisions about which styles to offer, which plants to recommend in which zones, and how to explain things to non-expert gardeners are human choices reviewed by the team. We're not interested in publishing a wall of machine-generated content; we're interested in shipping a tool that helps you design a real garden.
